Radeon 9800 Pro and Samsung Memory

Is there any way to tell from the Serial Number or anything on the outside of the packaging if the video card inside has Samsung memory chips?

Don't they pretty much all have samsung memory? I thought it was only the 9800np's that sometimes came with crappy memory from companies like infineon.

I could be mistaken (wouldn't be the first, won't be the last) but I think I've seen people selling 9800Ps in the FS/FT forum with Infineon ramchips. And some Hynix chips, too.

Are you sre those were not 9800 non pro?

because most if not all 9800's NON pro come with infineon or Hynix chips, lucky people who got a 9800 np with samsumg chips could flash them to 9800pro speeds easy. 🙂

Mine has Hynix and seems like quite good memory. Either Infineon is the crappy one or I'm a lucky guy.

My 9800PRO has Hynix chips as well, and it runs at 365 (730DDR) with no artifacts. Might even go higher, haven't pushed it yet. I believe 365 is the stock memory speed for the 9800XT.

What is your core at?

I think the infineon vs samsung deal was with the 9800np back in the day. There was a different serial number ID on the 9800np for samsung vs infineon.

The infineon on the 9800np was the bad deal compared to the 9800np with samsung. Back in the day, the 9800np with samsung would OC very well wheres the ones with infineon would not. I think the samsung was 2.2ns and the infineon was 2.8ns.

Infineon was 3.0ns (I think there even where 3.3ns infineons), and samsung was 2.8ns.
