Radeon 9800: physical differences between NP and Pro?

Is there a way to distinguish an Ati built Radeon 9800 NP and Pro by looking at the card? It has Samsung 3.3 ns memory on it. Perhaps a different serial or part number marked on the card somewhere? Just curious because I bought a Dell with a 9800 and the drivers say 9800 Pro (I've read XP calls everything a Pro).

I'll check out Rage3D once I get a chance.

Thanks.

If it has 3.3ns memory it's a 9800.

9800Pro's have 2.8ns memory I believe, because it has to be clocked higher.
3.3ns is rated for 300MHz, which gives 9800 memory speeds, with a bit of headroom.
9800Pro memory is clocked higher than the 300MHz 3.3ns is rated for.

The only physical difference I'm aware of is the pro uses faster 2.8ns Samsung memory and the non-pro uses slower 3.3 Samsung or 3.0? Infinion (sp?). The cores are the same but the non-pro is clocked slower (can't remember the difference).

Anyway, chances are good that you could run your card at or above default pro speeds. I have the same card and mine is flashed to a pro and running at 398/348.

some 9800 NP have 2.8 samsung. or even 2.2 samsung.

technically the cores on non pro 9800s dont have to make 340mhz. but its almost 100% likely they will.
