My first question, I suppose, would be how much faster is the 9800 non-pro compared with the 9700 pro? For $11 i'm not expecting too much, but even a small improvement in longevity is worth that pocket change. *EDIT: After more closely checking pricewatch, i've discovered that the 9700p is in fact more expensive that the 9800np from reputable resellers. Hmm.*

My second is the title of this thread. I can't seem to find any benchmarks detailing the 9800 non-pro and the 9700 non-pro together. Can anyone help me out?

Basically, if the 9800np is faster than the 9700p i'll be seriously considering the extra $80 up from my previous 1st choice, the 9700np.

Thanks for any assistance.

I just posted a message asking pretty much the same thing, at almost the same time, doh.

I think the 9800np?s will be clocked 325/290 so these are the clock rates of the various cards?

9800pro ? 380/340
9800 ? ? 325/290
9700pro ? 325/310
9700 ? ? 275/270

HardOCP had a review of the 9800pro downclocked to 9700pro speeds (325/310) and the 9800 core was a few % faster clock/clock because of a few minor improvements to the core. I would expect the memory on the 9800?s to very likely be 3.3 Samsungs if the 290 stock clock rate is correct. Manufacturers are out to save money and there isn?t much point in using the 2.8?s if he stock memory clock is 290. The 3.3 Samsungs usually get to about 310 ?315Mhz tops.

The 9700pro is probably going to edge out the 9800 by a couple of % in overall performance at stock speeds because of the memory speed advantage. The 9700?s advantage is faster 2.8 ram and that should make it to 340 ?350 range. 9800?s advantage is a core that can clock quite a bit faster than the 9700pro, probably about 60mhz more. The 9800 core seems to easily overclock to 400Mhz whereas the 9700 won?t come close to that (350 ?360 tops usually).

If the 9800np can be found with the faster 2.8ns memory for the same price of a 9700pro then the 9800 is hands down better. With the 3.3ns ram, well things aren?t so clear cut?

9800 ? ? 325/290 ----> 410/310
9700pro ? 325/310 ----> 360/340

At those o/c speeds the 9800 is probably a little faster than the 9700pro. (I?ve seen 9700pro?s run at 380 but also seen 9800?s at 435.)
