Radeon 9800 and power cord

System specs:

p4 2.4GHz
Abit IC7
Radeon 9800 non-pro
Enermax 450W PSU

When I turn the PC on for the first time, no problems... I go into the BIOS, get it up and running (just adjusting the CPU and FSB to stock). The next boot, I get a message saying I have not plugged the power cord into the Radeon, refer to installation instructions. The cord is in there -- what gives, any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

Are you positive the cord is there and has a good connection? Have you plugged a fan into the lead running to the Radeon to make sure you're actually getting power to it? It's probably not a common problem but one of my old power supplies has a "dead" connector. A longshot but worth a look.

As another person suggested to me in another thread - you should have the Radeon power cord alone on that line if possible (no other devices plugged in on the chain).

It seems to be making good contact. I've actually unplugged everything non-vital within my case. I will check to see if it's a dead connection, but it doesn't make sense why it works sometimes and not others (unless it's positional).

Any other ideas, feel free to post. 🙂

Hmmm I guess you could try bumping the AGP voltage in BIOS a touch(that`s if your board allows AGP voltage adjustment).

FYI to all, it was an issue with one strip of molex connectors. I don't know why the others are not affected, and why everything else seems to run just fine off that line. At any rate, thanks for the input. I thought I had changed the plug, but probably plugged the extension cord from the 9800 into another on this line since my cords were folded neatly.
