Radeon 9800 and Linux?

What are your experiences?

I am using Suse 8.2 and i don't care about 3D under Linux, there should only be full 2D capabilities and it should be stable.

What about XFree86 4.3? Does it have support for the 9800 or can/must i use the 9700 setting?

What about the drivers provided by Ati? THey officially only support the 9700. Can i use them and are they easy to install?

Just curious, why spend all the $$$ on a 9800 for 2D only, in Linux?

He will probably have a dual-boot with windows for 3D.

Yes, i do a lot of gaming under XP, but i am somehow fascinated by the UNIX world, so i di most of my other stuff under SuSE.
