Radeon 9700pro Monitor goes into standby

It seems since I installed cat 4.2 the monitor goes into standby and the system hangs. So I tried going back to cat 3.10 after an uninstall of the 4.2s. But the problem followed. So I tried a system restore... no luck so I tried a safe mode uninstall and regedit with a safe mode manual install of a few of the archived versions. No luck. Occasionaly the vpu recover will make an attemp and send a report to ATI. The system has been rock solid stable for a year since I built it, now I'm stumped. Any help is welcome, Here are the specs.
