What are the real differences between these two cards?

Is it worth it to spend the 70$ extra on the 9700 Pro?

No it's not worth it IMO. (and I own a 9700 Pro...) Save the 70$ and overclock the 9700.

Yep, if I remember correctly, it's clocked at 263 core and 263 memory (526DDR).
