Radeon 9700 Problem (onEpox Mobo)

I just bought a Radeon 9700 AIW and I'm having a lot of troubles installing it on my system.
I have an Epox KT266 mb with XP2500+. Since the mb is pretty old, it doesn't even recognize the CPU, nor does it reads correctly the memory type. But, with the BIOS upgrade it used to wok very well, even at 400 FSB (which is pretty impressive for a 266Mhz chipset).
But after I plugged the new Radeon, my computer behaves very strange, it fails to work with any fsb higher than 133, so it downclocks my cpu to 1.4 ghz, which is not good ... 🙂
I have enough power from a 500 psu, so that isn't an issue. It might be related to AGP/PCI multiplier, although I never had any problems with any other video card, and I think the multiplier is set to the right value.
Anybody has any idea? Btw, the same video card works well in my other system that has a newer mb.
So the config (with problems) was:
XP2500 + Epox KT266A
512 DDR2700
500W PSU
Radeon 9700

thanks ...
