Radeon 9700 PRo with TT Crystal orb

I just installed a crystal orb on my 9700 pro. The back of the card where the chip is, gets very hot after the computer has been on for a bit. IS this normal or did i install the orb wrong? Stupid me didn't check the card with the factory hsf.

yes the back of the card gets hot. think what is right on the other side of a few layers of PCB.. that's right a burning hot core

even my geforce 2mx got super hot on the back, as does my radeon 9700

Did you use any thermal paste on the orb? What kind?

Ya i used as3. Ya i figured it should be at least warm but didn't expect it to be that hot.

Yes. There's only one way to attach it, so unless you installed it way way wrong (upside down? ), you've probably got it wrong.

I have one on as well, and the back side still gets quite hot. So it's normal.


But, if you'd like to make it cooler, I'd recommend removing the shim around the core, so the orb and make the best contact with the core.

Oh that sounds intriguing! how do u remove the shim? same way the heatspreaders removed from p4's?
