Radeon 9700 Pro vs 9800 Pro

How much of a preformance increase is the 9800 Pro over the 9700 Pro? About to purchase a card online and was curious if it is worth the extra cash. I'm putting together a rig that I only plan to use for about a year and a half before I move on to 64 bit and whenever windows gets its act together with 64 bit. Will a 9700pro last that long or should I spend more for a 9800 pro? Any thoughts?

Depending on exactly what game or app you are looking at the 9800pro is generally 15% to 25% faster then a 9700pro. Wether that is worth it or not only you can answer 🙂

Thanks a lot. The difference is about $50. I'm not that much a gamer but I want quality video and to be able to keep up with changing technology. I'm not an overclocker or really into hardcore stuff but want a decent system. I appreciate the help.

Np. And for only $50 more I would definetly get the 9800pro. Thats not much more money.

while i 15-25% faster is a bit of a reach (10-15% would be more realistic), i would still get the 9800 pro as it has slight improvments over the 9700p in mem architecture, shader performance, and compression algorithms, but either one is a good card.

Hardware.fr.

In the US, 9700P's sell for ~$200, and 9800P's for $230. The latter is definitely worth ~$30 more. $50 may be stretching it.
