Radeon 9700 Pro Problems

I just built a new system with Asus P4C800E-deluxe, P4 3.2 Ghz, 1 Gig Corsair XMS 3200 LL, and Windows XP. When I try to install the Radeon drivers(including the newest Catalyst 3.8) the system won't boot after the XP Home startup screen. I've downloaded the latest Intel Chipset utility, I haven't flashed my Bios because I don't see any relevant fixes in that update. I've heard of issues with Asus boards and these cards, including that my Radeon is one of the older ones (serial model #) I've also tried to install ATI Control Panel, but I can only get into XP through safe mode and then control panel doesn't show up in the display adapter as installed. Any Suggestions?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought that all 875P boards (including the P4C800) don't work with Intel's Application Accelerator. What is the Intel Chipset Utility?

It updates all the chipset drivers, for the Asus P4C800 Deluxe, it updates the i875 chipset.

i have almost the exact same setup (see sig) and have had no problems at all...i'm not sure what revision my radeon is but i bought it off a friend so i think its pretty old...

maybe try installing a standard vga display adapter from safe mode then seeing if it boots regularly?

Just for the hell of it, try disabling fast writes in your bios.
Not saying it will do anything for ya, you might have a different prob than I did.
I have an ASUS P4P800 (865PE) and disabling fast writes made all my ATI woes go away.

Cant hurt to give it a shot.
