Radeon 9700 PRO power question...

My friend just purchased a Radeon 9700 Pro and recieved it today. He has yet to install it but he has a question. There seems to be a connection of some sort, possibly power (4 pins), and he doesn't know what it is for. Is it required? And also, what kind of wires do you need? The card was OEM so he didn't get any other wires. Thanks for your help.

It's for power. Just plug the thing into your power supply. If you don't have a plug available on your power supply you're going to need to get a splitter for it.

It`s the same type of connector that goes on your floppy drive for power. So see if you have a spare one on your PSU if not you need a splitter lead.

PICs here , ,one end goes to the 9700 card and other to PSU,yes you need it.

He would have known as soon as he booted without, as you get a black screen with red type saying that you have forgot to connect the 9700's power cable.

Not to be rude, but he would have known as soon as he read the manual that came with the card (assuming, I suppose, that it did come with a manual).

Well it was OEM, so it wouldn't be surprising if there was no manual.

perhaps it was used... and he doesn't have all his parts for his computer yet so he can't test it.

Thanks for your imput though. 1 question. It looks a lot like the floppy drive power connector... are they the same?

u need to plug that baby in boy. u should get a spliter in the box too. use one of ur HDD power lead to leach sum juice. use the spliter there and then plug the HDD back in.

without the connector ur 9700 wont be able to do any 3d work, them 107 million + transistors are thirsty!!!!!!!!!
