Radeon 9700 Pro Overheating!!

I think the problem with my radeon 9700 pro vid card is that it overheats, causing crashes when playing graphics intensive games. I touched it when a game crashed, and it was fairly hot. Is there any easy way to fix this? I don't really want to change the heatsink or fan, since that will void the warranty.

Thanks

but do you have some case fans to cool the vid card?

either way it should be fine with just the stock HSF, but case cooling does help.

If your CPU fan is just blowing hot air into the case, and you have no front fan, the rear fan will not be able to effectively cool the case because no air is being taken in from the front. Buy an 80mm (or 120mm fan, i don't know what the front of your case uses) and that should give you better airflow, and create a path for all that hot air to get OUT of the system quicker. If you have the option for a side fan, that would be your BEST bet here, because it would draw out heat from near the video card.

i had removed the hsf on my bba 9700pro to put a beter on on sense i have a little mini tower and the card would overheat whenever the hsf got the slightist bit dusty. i static shocked the poor card by letting my finger slip and hit the floppy power connector when it was really dry out and i was standing on carpet. a few days latter i saw some guy saying he accedently riped a resistor off his club3d 9700pro while pulling the heatsink off and rmaed it without issue. i figured while what i did was stupid it was not nearly as stupid as what he did so i might as well send it in and see what happens. now i have a new 9700pro. 🙂

so it seems ati is more leaneant about their warranties than some people make them out to be. that said, the stock hsf should do just fine with decent circulation in the case. i'd look to impoveing the case cooling before bothering with changeing the cooling on the card itself.
