System: 2.6 P4, Asus P4C800, 9700np
Ok my friend just called me with this problem:
He recently installed SP2 and he said his ATI drivers stopped working properly (he has 9700np). So he uninstalled them and right when he was going to install new ones, it keeps saying VGA device is not plugged in check if you have a videocard installed, or something along those lines.
This is what we tried to do:
1. Enabled Plug & Play OS in Bios
2. Downloaded Driver Cleaner 3.0 and cleaned all ATI related data/folders/drivers/etc.
3. Downloaded new ATI Drivers
4. Tried to add the videocard by Add Hardware (Automatically (Recommended) and Advanced (manual)) => still nothing
5. Tried System Restore
6. Uninstalled SP2 and tried all of the above again - nothing
7. Unplugged the videocard and restarted the computer to see if the OS detect it, nope.
NOTE: my friend lost his retail box ATI Drivers CD that came with the card
In Device Manager, Display Adapter option is completely missing.
I am seriously running out of options not knowing what to do (and reformat is out of the question due to the amount of data he needs to back up). Any ideas on what I should try next? ANY advice is welcome.
Thanks in advance.
