Radeon 9700 DVI Output

Is anyone using a Radeon 9700's DVI output with an LCD monitor? I'm wondering how well it works, I know that it's a rather old card.

I've heard from some people using this card's DVI that the monitor does not turn on until the windows login screen. Has anyone experienced this?

Thanks

Yeah, real old cards w/DVI can be a little unpredictable. If you can afford an LCD, you can probably afford a better card. An AGP X800 in the used market should be $50 or so. Would be a HUGE upgrade 🙂

The thing is I'm planning on building a new PC in half a year to a year, and if I upgrade my card now, it'll be a waste since I'll be getting a new PCI-E card in the new system.

Hmm, then just use the Dsub output of your 9700 if you have trouble. It will look okay as long as the resolution isn't too extreme.

I've been using a 9700 Pro for the better part of a year now and it worked just fine with my 2005FPW over DVI.

The issue you mentioned (about the monitor not displaying anything until Windows logon) I've only seen on the Radeon 8500's DVI output; I've never seen it happen on the 9700.
