Radeon 9700 + Athlon XP2700+

Would the CPU limit the results of the Radeon in this combo? If so, what speed CPU does the Radeon need to operate at full power?

I don't think there would be much limiting on either side of things. Just get some fast memory like Nforce2's dual channel stuff or something.

more then descent, to be honest i am not sure how fast a CPU would be need to push the radeon to its limits. But you are definitely starting off very well.

alot better than mine which i consider decent.
p4 1.8 @ 2.7 and GeForce4 Ti4200 128MB with 512MB DDR333

spankage!

Yes, especially in the newer games which are CPU limited. But don't worry about it, that CPU will push it very nicely and at some point you just have to stop thinking about it and enjoy the card.

A CPU like that doesn't exist yet. Perhaps 4 GHz, but even then the likes of UT2003 and Commanche 4 will still be CPU limited, as will most other newer games.

does anyone have some benchmarks on a setup like this
I've done benchmarks of a similar setup (see the specs below) and it includes some CPU scaling comparisons. I think you might find it interesting.

512mb's of good DDR, make sure you run on a 166mhz fsb(ddr333), the 9700 dose much better with a higher front side bus.
