Radeon 9700 1600x1200 Output to large for screen

I just did a reinstall on my pc. Before I ran most all games at 1600X1200 and it worked great. Now when I try to select 1600X1200 the screens are displayed, but I only see a portion of the top left corner. I've adjusted all the monitor controls, video card controls, etc... but these controls will only adjust the viewable area, it doesn't bring the full output into the monitors viewable area. If I even try to set my desktop resolution, I can fully see the toolbar and desktop all the way up to 1600X1200, but at 16x12 the toolbar disappears and all I can see is the middle portion of my desktop wall paper.

Any ideas?

Go to the dsiplay section of your driver control panel and under your monitor's specification make sure that the maximum resolution and refresh rate are selected in the dropdown menus.

What brand/model of monitor is it?

Its a samsung SyncMaster 955df, I tried what BFG10k said and it worked wonderful.
