Radeon 9600Pro 128MB vs. Radeon 9800SE 128MB

Hi,

I need to know which graphics card is the better. I ordered a Sapphire 9600XT 256MB Ram but delivery time has been postponed to January and I need it before Christmas as it's a gift for my dad.

So my question would be.

1) Whitch Radeon is the best when comparing the 9600Pro against the 9800SE?
2) Whitch Radeon is the best when comparing the 9600XT 256MB against the 9800SE?

I know that the 9600XT beats the 9600Pro but should I wait for the 9600XT 256MB to become available or go for the 9800SE.

Thanks

9800SE and 9600 Pro are...depends. They could be neck and neck, the 9800SE could be lost, and you could get lucky with a 9800SE that's 256-bit and beats the 9600 Pro.
Basically the 9800SEs are making use of cheaper and leftover parts in many cases, and partially defective (sometimes) GPUs (4 pipelines enabled out of 8). You could get one that a 9600np would beat, or you could get one that can be made to work as a 9800 Pro...it's a lottery.

Overall the 9600 Pro would be a more solid buy. The 9600XT...isn't. It's $20 more for not much of a performance edge.
400/600 vs. 500/600...I'm thinking the memory is the 9600Pro/XT's bottleneck, since that's a 25% core speed improvement, but it doesn't show much in benches. Check the video section of the main site for a 9600XT review.
For a $160 card, the 9600 Pro is good. The 9800SE is alright for $150 if you want to take your chances, and I just can't see getting the 9600 XT for $180.

256MB cards aren't needed yet, but they will be, and could be worth it if you expect this card to last 2 years or more. However, with only the 9600 as a midrange ATi card with 256MB...dunno. Kinda odd. If you expect this card to be replaced in a year or not much after, just don't worry about getting 256MB.

And to recap, don't waste money on 256MB onboard ram. It does little to nothing to improve the 9600pro's performance. I would buy the 9600pro for solid performance and a cheap price tag.

A 5900nu for 200 dollars will be your next best bet and price zone.
