I finally received the vid card i ordered yesterday, VERY dissappointing. I tryed playing Battlefield... even at the lowest possible video settings it lags like a mofo. I currently have a 800mhz Duron 512k of sdr ram .... i think this may be the problem but the processor meets the suggested speed on the box and i got double the suggested ram. What do you guys think? Also the Radeon seems to run the game exactly like my g force3 :( . it made no diffrence

The SDRAM alone is crippling your setup..

The duron isn't helping either.

Sell that video card..

Grab a ECS k7s5a + 2500 + for like $125 or a even lower bundle price...

That coupled with your GF3 will be faster.

No, the geforce is not faster than the radeon. However, in your situation, your system, overall, would be faster if you sold the radeon and used the money to upgrade your motherboard/cpu/ram and then used a Geforce3.

Having a fast video card won't do you any good unless you have a fast CPU to feed it with data. The fact that you saw no performance increase indicates that you are bound by your CPU.

Exactly..

If you can flip that Radeon off and try and grab a bundle... That 2500+ can last you quite awhile ( or at least till you get enough to purchase a video card at a later date.)

I hope your joking. A Duron 800mhz is pretty much the same as a similar clocked P3. So it would ruffly equal a P3 800mhz.

nah, 800MHz Duron = about 700MHz PIII

but that is definitely the reason it's slow.
if you had a P4 it would be way better.

That's slightly very wrong. It would be more like 800Mhz Duron = 850Mhz P3.

It depends on the chipset.

I think the 9600 256MB is acting slow since it's not a Pro or XT. Check out reviews on 128MB 9600's. The clock is much lower than that of a Pro.

CPU is too weak, you could have a 9800XT or 5900U and still not see any improvement.

Return the vid card to the store.
If not possible, then just hold on to it for now.
Or just sell it for a quick cash.

I have to agree; the 9600 is not the problem. If you saw no difference in gameplay after, then your CPU/MB/RAM was already maxxed out before.

Your CPU/platform is far too slow and the 9600 is far too slow to take advantage of 256 MB VRAM.

Also the Radeon seems to run the game exactly like my g force3 :( . it made no diffrence
That's called CPU limitation.

Yup, Nick1985 and I were the first to note that you got a 9600 nonpro with massive amounts of extra (unused) ram. I hope you got it for a good price, cuz you can get 9600Pro's for like $130, and Bestbuy offered a 9600 nonpro for $70 once.

WTF ? Its more powerful than a p2-450! More like a T-Bird 700-750Mhz with full cache.

In dream land maybe...

Duron 800Mhz = 667/133 P3 or 700/100 P3

It's your CPU. it sucks and is old, which is why the video card is no better than your old one because so much of a game relies on cpu that it simply can't feed the video card at all with what it's capable of.

Benchmarks. 9600 NP is barely faster than a R8500, which is about the speed of a GF3 Ti500. If you upgraded from a GF3 then performance increase is probably not going to be noticeable.

Yeah your video card is being bottle-necked by your CPU.
