radeon 9550's

a while back i posted about radeon 9550's. someone mentioned that they were chopped down 9600's. would it be possible to do some soft or software mod to upgrade to 9600 clock speeds? i always see people saying they mod their cards up from an SE or NP to a PRO. was wondering if the same thing was possible for 9550. 9600 for ~60 wouldnt be a bad deal 🙂

thanks all

edit: damn just looked at newegg... the 256mb/128bit 9550 was $90.

which is why you don't get 256MB cards? they have slower RAM to begin with. And let's face it, a 9550 can't make good use of that much RAM anyways.

I'd just suck it up and buy a 9800 Pro or one of the X800 or 6800 cards. It's not worth the time and potential of frying the card or other components in your PC.

The 9550 in general has slow RAM, and that's the problem. Even if you could get the core to 9600 specs, you're going to be fighting RAM that's spec'd way too low to work at 9600 speeds, giving you a memory bandwidth bottleneck.
