Dude, Windows longhorn will only come out end of 2006 if we are lucky. Why not buy one of those two a cards then, second hand for, uber cheap?

i was thinkin of buying now and not having to upgrade later to dx9...
i'm planning on going s754 64 bit...so it's integrated dx8 and upgrade to dx9 later or dx9 right now...which i guess will also be better then the igp till Longhorn for what i need (no games, audio, video, internet, multimedia etc.)
i'm plannin on holdin this about 3-4 years

well over a year away from longhorn.. if that's the only reason you have for an upgrade, it makes no sense to spend now when th cost of those parts are at a premium - they are kind of low end now, they will be pushing obsolesence by the time longhorn hits the market...

DX9 and the FX cards don't belong in the same sentence. (emphasize period) edit: DOH!

Seriously, though, by the time Longhord rolls around, we might have DX10, and anyway DX9 support will be present on most if not all IGP's.

Isn't the ATI RS480 onboard dx9? If it's a no gaming scenario, that may satisfy the need for dx9 w/out the additional expense of the video card while offering a platform with more longevity.

DX 10 + Avalon aka DX NEXT on windows Experienced aka LongHorn.(unless names change or are false to start with)

From using L-H sh1t so far from early leaked alphas to winhec build (new other day)it is still long way of and my irc channel tests these alphas and betas.

L-H has a hidden setting which you can regedit to get some 3D stars on desktop, cause final build is gonna have a 3D desktop and your GPU will need be decent powered one as all you do with pc will use your GPU as never before, think of it as the vice vera of what Nvidia tried to do with PvP, where GPU takes load from CPU, well normal pc use you use CPU, but in L-H part will use GPU more and more, obv your GPU today puts picture you see on monitor even websurfing buts its not using it much, but in L-H that will change.

oh ok then...i was thinkin of buyin a brand new a64 system + dx9 video card etc. to hold me maybe even 2 years after longhorn release..
guess 64 bit is not needed now (meaning not a lot of apps) anyways so i'll proly go with Sempron/IGP combo till longhorn
