radeon 9500np inquiry

I just ordered a radeon 9500np 128mb with the infamous L-shaped ram config (aka 9700pcb). I'm sure this has been asked to death, but what are my chances of a softmod working? Also, if the softmod doesn't work, how would this card stack up to a geforce ti4200 at stock 250/500 or at overclocked 281/613? Thanks in advance for any help rendered.

a 4200 at that speed would pwn it if the soft mod failed

At stock the 4200 is faster than the 9500 for the most part. The 9500 has much better shader performance so should do better in newer games (DX9 technology). Also, the 9500 will have much better AA/AF performance.
