Radeon 9500 + Windows XP + 75 hz max ??

I installed a Radeon 9500 today. Everything is fine and dandy and whatever, except that no matter what refresh rate I choose greater than 75 hz, my monitor still only shows I am running at 75 hz. In other words, I can select 85 hz fine from the standard display drivers, but if I press the display button on my monitor, it says I am only running at 75 hz.

I had the same problem with my previous video card which was a GeForce 2 GTS, and it was solved by running RefreshForce and rebooting. The program is supposed to support the Radeon 9500/9700 and seems to detect and apply the refresh rate settings, but after rebooting, the problem is not fixed.

I have tried uninstalling/reinstalling my monitor, then running RefreshForce again and rebooting, and it still does not work.

I tried Rage3D Tweak doesn't seem to work on Catalyst 3.0 (no display modes are listed anywhere in the modes window).

If anyone has a solution to this problem, please let me know. My eyes are starting to bleed from the low refresh rates. Thanks.

Grab RefreshForce from Rage3D. It worked great whe I had my RADEON 8500 and works great now that I have a GeForce4-Ti4400. It gives you the ability to set a refresh rate for any resolution you want. It's the best!

In the displays tab where its showing your actual refresh rate, go into the monitor properties and input the MAX resolution and the MAX refresh rate your monitor supports (mine is set to 2048X1536 and 180 Hz). Maybe DDC isn't supported, or not properly suppported.

Now your refresh rate should be right if your monitor supports it.

I solved the problem by disabling the use of DCC to determine refresh rates in the ATI Catalyst control panel. Also told Windows to hide all unsupported video modes. After this, using RefreshForce worked (before I switched these options, the program did nothing).

Thanks.

What is DDC?

Display Data Channel. Using DDC, a monitor can inform the video card about its properties, such as maximum resolution, refresh rate and color depth. I know my monitor doesn't support DDC using BNC cables, so I have to manually enter the DDC information with every video card driver installation.
