Hi everyone,

I'm really thinking about buying a Radeon 9500 128MB (nonpro) and then turn it into an Radeon 9700. Since I have heard a lot about the checkerboard effect (about 30% of moders have it), I really would like to know if this, what I found out, works. Sorry, no link.

I was said that the problem with the mod is not in the turned on pipelines (from 4 to 8) more in the turned on Hierarchical Z-buffer (HZ). So it is recommended to do the following:

1. Turn the Hierarchical Z-buffer off with RivaTuner
2. for OpenGL it is possible to do it via a Registry key:
The key is: An6aYj2vwKuKd9brxl7, and it should be found under \OpenGL\Private. It is necessary to add REG_DWORD under this key with the value 0 for turning of HZ and 1 for turning on HZ.

Someone who has a 9500 with the checkerboard effect should try this out and post the results here.

Thanks to everybody.

Had the 9500 np and did the softmod - checkboards, changed the registry entries with rivatuner and it didn't help, still got checkerboards - it was a Sapphire 9500np btw.
