Radeon 9500 pro

ive got mine still, in a second computer....still amazed at how it handles most newer games at 10x7 with ease

my bro plays CS:S, Guild wars, AOE3, Q4, Never winter nights, and it handles it all, and not at the lowest settings either. even get away with light AA and AF in CS

it is overclocked to 9700pro speeds, and actually ATI tool had it up past 380Mhz totally stable

for me this has to be the best mid-high range card ATI has ever made.

cost me £130 in 2003 (maybe 2004 i dont remember) still a beast.

man i'd love one, and my 9800 pro back 🙁

my 6600GT just has no glamour or 'bad boy' image, it's just a decent mid range performer that was released as such...

I'd love to have an collection of each 'era' PCs up and running 😀

Out of curiosity, how does it play Battlefield 2?

i dunno this beast had 107 million tranies on a 0.15micron fab so it had the extra power cord.

probably the fastes on agp without the power cord....6200 maybe?

i dont no he doesnt have that. BF2 isnt really that graphics intensive.....its the sheer amount of memory needed to play smooth

the 9500 np was yes, and if u got ram arranged in a L shape you could go 9500np to 9700pro!

saddly the 9500pro had ram arranged in a I shape, 128bit only.....but it came with 8 pipes open already

I'm still running my 9500 Pro in one of my machines. You're dead on about the performance, it can play almost any game at halfway decent settings on my 1280x1024 LCD. Obviously it cant handle FEAR, CoD2 very well, but other than that it's still chuggin strong.

even the 9550 (at faster than 9600XT speeds) i had, full sheets to the wind was probably lagging behind a 9500.

I still got my ATI 9500pro @ 300/600 w/ 3.0ns RAM in my 7 year-olds computer. It handles Star Wars Legos, MOH, C&C Gen, and endless numbers of SpongeBob games. I wish I had another the replace the 11 year-olds 4600ti. I also had a Korean S/U/M/A 9500pro w/ another GPU HSF on the back of the card and 2.8ns RAM. This thing overclocked to 350/700, and out performed my buddy's 9700np @ stock with all other componets being equal.

Sad thing is, if i wanted to spend the same $$ today on a new card that i spent 3 years+ ago for the 9500pro, i probably wouldnt get that much more performance. It would be better for sure, but not earth shattering.

The 9500 series was an amazing midrange solution. I remember buying one for $150 when the R300 was still new and unlocking it. I don't think I'll ever see high end performance for $150 like that again...unless I plunked down $175 on a C3D X800GTO?

Which is exactly the reason I got mine. I was planning to wait for the x1800xt to become available, but the c3d gto was too good to pass up, and now I dont even plan on ugrading until the r600.

Also, I built my older rig just weeks before the release of the 9500's and I wish I would have waited a bit. Back then the only choice I had was a $400+ 9700p or a $84 9000p, so I went with the 9000p. But that was a decent card for the money too.

It runs fine on medium settings without AA.

Not too bad. You have to have the image turned down and a 800x600 resolution, but it is playable on my 2.4C. It runs half-life 2 rather decent.

I've bumped a 2 month old thread, but for a good reason.... 🙂

I'm building a midrange system for a friend who has a budget of $400. He probably won't game at all, but I'm trying to throw in a decent video card that could run some emulators and older games with no problems.

If it came down to a GF4 Ti4600, 9600 Pro, or a 9500 Pro, would the 9500 Pro be the best bet if the prices were all the same?

Absolutely, get the 9500 pro. My old one is sitting in my wife's computer and it still runs games like a champ. Until I figured out my driver issue it was even running Black and White 2 better than my pc!

I don't know that I'll get rid of it, it's a legend of a little card, one of my favorite purchases.

I had a 9500 pro too. That thing did rock. What a great peice of hard ware. I got it for $175 sold it for 100 over a year later and was able t opick up my 6800GT for $303 total!

I still have my 9500Pro bios flashed to 9700Pro running in my wife's P4-2.4 shuttle box. The only games it now runs is Sims 2 in which it does a acceptable job but the CPU is lagging.

I would actually say 9600 pro. It is a touch slower than the 9500pro in older games, can be a fair bit faster in newer games, runs cooler and with less power.
