Radeon 9500 Pro O/C

Now maybe this is a dumb question. I just got my Visiontek Radeon 9500 Pro 128MB tonight. Installed it. Noticed it had Infineon 3.0 ram on it. Now, I know the 9500's are supposed to be locked down in the bios.

I downloaded powerstrip, basically because I wanted to know where it was clocked at (just making sure). I was able to raise the bars and overclock this card. Evidently it works, FPS in 3dmark2003 went up as I clocked this thing higher (quick test, I will run UT2003 benchies later). Is visiontek selling these things unlocked?

On there website they have a forum board and a overclocking section that basically states, even though visiontek strongly discourages overclocking, we know you do it and this is the place to talk about it.

What do you guys think? Radeonator couldnt connect to some probe, so it wouldnt allow me to even overclock or even see what it was clocked at.

Okay heres what I found out. Rage3D, Radeonator cant OC this card. Powerstrip CAN, but my card wasnt doing so well which means either it doesnt do it properly, or I need to do a little modifying to the card (maybe better fan, thermal compound, etc). What are the capabilities for 3.0ns ram? I forgot the conversion formula for that.

The mhz can be calculated by dividing 1000 by the memory speed in nanoseconds. 3ns = 333mhz, 3.3ns = 303mhz, 3.6ns = 278mhz.

The card is most likely clock-locked. The original hacked BIOSes for the Radeon 9500 Pro used 3.6ns Hynix memory, so it probably won't work for you. Probably the best way (if you're confident about BIOS flashing) is to copy your card's BIOS, use a hex editor to change the one value that needs to be changed, and flash your card with the altered BIOS. Do it at your own risk though.

The Rage3D thread regarding unlocking the Radeon 9500 Pro is HERE.

Yep you must be right. Powerstrip probably isnt doing it properly if at all and thats whats causing my problems. Someone on the visiontek forums has modded a copy and done it. Im waiting for them to respond and possibly hook me up with the copy. See what I can get then. Sheesh....why cant I ever leave anything alone!

Okay update. Found a hacked bios for the infineon ram.

Right now, clocked at 310/310. 3dmark2001 score 14439. Will continue to push it and see how high it will go.

365/330. 3dmark2001 SE score 15401. Thats only 40 marks lower than my 2.4 P4 Radeon 9700 Pro

Here it is
