Hi there:

I'm interested in knowing if the onboard fan on the Radeon 9500 Pro and Radeon 9700 Pro are somewhat quiet or noticeably loud? The onboard fan on my Gainward Cardexpert GeForce4 Ti4400 is remarkably loud and I'm looking for an upgrade, preferably ATI Radeon 9500Pro or 9700Pro.

I did read a couple of reviews that the 9700 Pro was suprisingly quiet. What do you guys think?

Thanks for your input!

You could go with the Sapphire RADEON 9700 ATLANTIS PRO Ultimate Edition, which uses a heat pipe, has no fan, and thus has no noise.

Thanks for letting me know. I'll look into this card!

I actually disagree. While the R9700 fan is not overly loud I can hear it above everything else in my system. Granted it is very quiet but still the fan is quite audible.

Well since owning Leadtek cards for many years the Radeon fan to me is very quiet. I have to agree with the case fans are louder. As for buying the Radeon with the heatsink that uses the heatpipe, you could always find the cheapest Radeon then add the heatsink. Zalman makes the heatsink for that which uses the heatpipe and no fan its the Zalman ZM80 which can be seen below.

I may go with WaTaGuMp and purchase the Radeon 9700 and see if the fan is quiet. I'm really interested in the ZALMAN heatpipe but I'm not sure if it will fit in my Asus P4PE because my Gainward CardExpert G4 is really close to the RAM DIMMS.

Thanks for your input guys.
