Duron 1.1 ghz
gigabyte 7VRX
128mb radeon 9100
WinME
thanx.

i believe its called "stuttering"..

there are many solutions to this, i'll list a few,

you need latest drivers for video/mobo
format ur computer if you upgraded from a nVidia card previously, cause they play havoc with each other with incomplete uninstalls etc..
defrag
check for spyware
check for programs in background.

This site www.rage3d.com is dedicated towards ATI stuff, and their forums will have lot of up to date solutions to ur problem. I just can't remember anymore.. but there are tons of reasons.

Welcome to the Anandtech forums, blazer78. This may sound simplistic but have you got vsync on or off. If it's off then it's going to stutter but if you have vsync on and your refresh rate set to 70 hertz than your games'll run smooth as a movie.🙂

Well vsync is set to application preference. games like mafia stutter when i'm playing the game.(in the game options vsync is turned on)

perhaps my old tnt2 is still messing around with my new card in the registry?? i've heard of a program called detonator destroyer which deletes all nvidia stuff in the registry but i'm not so sure if it's safe..

i currently have dx8 with cat 3.1 drivers would upgrading to dx9 fix the problem??

Immediately rid your system of Windows ME. It is the bastard child of MS operating systems. It should be used under no circumstances, and I consider it less stable and compatible than Windows 98SE. I have used it on several systems, all of which have many problems. Windows 2000/XP is the way to go.

However, if that can't be done, then updating to the latest Catalyst 3.1 drivers should solve your problem. VSync should always be forced on too. It looks so much better.

well i already ave cat 3.1 and vsync is set to app preference in ati control panel. i'll try detonator destroyer then.

well there is nothing to erase in det destroyer and 3dmark and all other prorams stutter! i need a good solution to the problem...
