radeon 9100 Locking up...

I boguht a 64mb radeon 9100 card earlier today. It keeps randomly locking up, not jsut during games, but also at the desktop. I tried ATIs latest drivers and the drivers that came with it. I'm runnign win2k SP3 with directX 8.1

Any ideas what might cause random lockups?
 
Run msconfig and uncheck all startup items. How does your PC run now?

You might try running Prime95 and memtest86 to test for total system stability.
 
I jsut reinstalled windows, and it still does the same thing with just directX 9 installed. The PC ran perfectly before. It had a two month uptime when I shut it down to install the new video card earlier.
 
So what was the problem ?
