I'm building a computer using some spare parts, and one of them is an ATI Radeon 9100 pro. The only problem with this card is the fan is really loud, and I have to reach in and slow it with my finger a few times for it to return to a normal level. I've oiled it a few times and even sent it back, but its still bad. So .... does anyone know of a heatsink I can get for this card that will cost less than $10?

If your case has decent airflow, you could try just removing the fan altogether. I did so with my Visiontek 9100, and it seemed fine.

I'd prefer not to have to run it without a fan if I can because I will be using this computer for some gaming, although at low settings.

Yeah, I was tentative about gaming, too, but mine seemed to handle it with no ill effects. I played Wolf:ET and some other games, and I experienced no crashes or other instability. I don't blame you for wanting to play it safe, though.

My card was a regular 9100, though: 250/250MHz core/DDR. If yours has a faster core, then you may well need active cooling.

I had the same thing with my 9000pro (275/275 mhz) and eventually the fan just died. I unplugged it, and it ran fine with passive cooling, even while gaming. You can try using atitool to measure the vide card temperatures while gaming (if it has a temp sensor)
