Radeon 9100 Brand

Hi,

I've pretty much decided that the Radeon 9100 has the best mix of features and price for me. However, I do have a quick question... Sapphire makes a cheap 9100, and so does Crucial. Which one should I buy?

The prices are pretty similar, with Crucial being $5 more. A worthy price difference considering the two-day shipping and the lifetime warranty, in my opinion. However, I did hear something about clock speeds being different on different cards... although it is OEM, I'll take the Sapphire if it's got a significant performance edge. Thanks for your advice.
 
I'd stay away from that crucial. It has 5ns ram which would be rated for only 200mhz. I'm not sure what the sapphire comes with, but a lot of the 9100's I've seen have the memory clocked at 250mhz, which would be much better.
 
Avoid the Crucial, the memory is way too slow:166-200MHz. Sapphire is probably slow, too, but a better buy: usually 200MHz memory for 128MB cards, 230MHz for 64MB. Visiontek 9100 are 250/250MHz. If you can find them for around the same price, they're a better buy (and lifetime warranty as well, if that's important).

A 275/275MHz 9000 Pro is probably a better buy than one of the slower 9100's (230 or 200MHz memory).

Is Visiontek still in financial trouble? I heard they were almost bankrupt a while back. That would put a lifetime warranty in question, since it's worth nothing if the company goes out of business.

I thought the same thing about Vtek's "lifetime" warranty (good for the lifetime of the company, which is shorter than that of the card 😉).

Actually, I think someone bought them out, and now they're making ATi, not nVidia, cards. The good news is that owners of Vtek nV cards still get warranty service, or so I've read on one forum or another. A lifetime for video cards isn't much longer than three to five years, anyway.
