OK hi, My radeon 9000 pro 128 MB has 2 types of anti aliasing, quality, and performance. My moniter goes up to a res of 1280X1024, so thats what i run at. The card allows me to run 4X performance anti aliasing at 1280X1024, or 2X quality anti aliasing at that res. My qusetion is, which of these is faster, and what would look better in games: 2X Quality at 1280X1024, or 4X performance 1280X1024, which is faster, and which has better image quality?

To tell which is faster, run a benchmark, or run FRAPS.

To tell which looks better, um, use your eyes. ;P

Or, if you're feeling exceptionally lazy and are willing to accept fairly old pictures and benches (tho they should still be relatively accurate), try Anand's comparison of the two. Your 9000P should be slightly slower than the 8500 in that article. Try here for more pictures and benches at Tech-Report.

A 9000P is definitely not fast enough to give you what I'd consider acceptably fast framerates with FSAA at 1280x1024, but it really depends on the game--you might get away with it with older ones. You'll probably have to dip to 1024x768 or even 800x600 to get 4xAA framerates as fast as 2x at 1280x1024, tho. Still, I think you might have to stick to 1024x768 to use even 2xAA.

ok i checked it out, but what do you all think would be higher quality, 1280X1024 with 4X AA, or 1024X768 with 6X anti aliasing
