I just noticed that a new retail card is still 150-160 dollars which is where it was last year around this time when I got mine...1 full year and it is about the same price. I love this card as the DV card came with sme nice unique features the more expensive 128mb version did not....

A couple of questions.....

How does the 9000 pro AIW compare to the 8500DV?? IN gaming??? IN overall features and performance....Can it run MMC 8.1???

How does the 9600pro AIW compare to the 8500DV???

**The 9000 has half the pipes of the 8500. I would suggest take the clock speed of the 8500, then raise that figure by 20-25% to get the equivalent clock speed in a 9000.

IN overall features and performance....Can it run MMC 8.1???

**Rage3d forums would be a good source on this info. I would assume yes. As far as features go, the only difference *should* be in the TV tuners. ATi abandoned the digital tuner due to heat issues IIRC.

**Night and day. You're basically comparing a substantially underclocked 8500 with a highly clocked DX9 card. Why not just buy a 9700 non-pro, then add a tv tuner for $50 or so? Not enough PCI slots?

PS. What's a duvie? Is it like a newbie? A movie? A d00bie? If you answer I'll tell you what a sick beast is.

Huh.

Sick beast is derived from the two words:

sick (sic): Exclam. Excellent! Good!
beast (best): Any four-footed animal, that may be used for labor, food, or sport; as, a beast of burden.

A righteous man regardeth the life of his beast. --Prov. xii. 10.

And hence that describes my computer, among other things.

The biggest difference is it uses the new Theater 200 chip rather than the older (1998) Rage Theater chip and the lack of the firewire port. It also went back to the analog philips tuner, so it may run a bit cooler as well. Performance is probably pretty close between the two cards. It can run any of the MMC software suites including MMC 8.1.

AIW cards do tend to hold their value much longer than their non-AIW counterparts, and starting with the new AIW 9600 pro, they'll also be faster than the non AIW cards😉
