Do you have this problem... (random flivkering pixels in games)

http://www.rage3d.com/board/showthread.php?s=&threadid=33604811

I am trying to sovle the issue while going back and forth with ATI's, so far bad, support. They keep wanting to blame my settings, my system, etc. Not once has any of them even opened up the possibility that the card might be bad... even after I directly asked them if this could be the cause of my problems. One of thier latest emails suggested I could simply wait until a new driver came out, and it "may" contain a fix for the problem I am having. Great support eh?

Since I know there has to be another person with a very similar system configuration to mine, it kind of throws out much of their assumptions...

Anyone have this these system specs?

Any ideas as to what could be going wrong?

Hmmm. I don't have the problem you are having. What games are you having that problem? What version of the driver you using for the Radeon?

Latest drivers (Posted 4/11). The other person in that thread with the same problems have tried all previous versions.

Games I have tried so far are Wolfenstein, Nascar 2002, and the Comanche 4 Demo. All have the same problem.. light pixels showing on dark surfaces and vise versa. Strangly, I have not seen it occur while running 3dmark. Once in awhile, I will jump into Wolfenstein and not see the pixels there, but not often at all. I think it has happened only twice. I am not sure if it is by coincidence that it happened in Wolfenstein both times.

I can only think of one reason it might not be the video card... my Motherboard is reporting voltages slightly less than they should be. For example, 1.45 on the VCore, and the 3.3 line is around 3.28 etc. (Using Antec 350W PS). I am on my second windows XP clean install, and I got the same results both times. I have done their reccommended BIOS settings, and their OpenGL/Direct3D settings. (Wolf is OpenGL right? If so, then it is doing it in both Direct3D and OpenGL).

I bought the card from a small local shop which I have a pretty good relationship with, and he offered to swap it out with a new one when the next shipment of them comes on Friday... I am trying to test all other alternatives prior to making the switch.

I *think* the card might be overheating, or for some reason can't handle the Retail speeds. The RAM modules are pretty hot to the touch. Are yours? System cooling is not an issue... I tried that. I maxed out the fans on my Antec 635 Case (2 front, 1 back, dual PS fans), and also cranked the AC up.

I prefer this card over the others in it's price range, I just wish it would work, and I have been less then impressed with ATI's lack of meaningful help, and sudden disinterest (telling me to wait for driver updates that may fix my issue).

i don t know if this is the same thing but i would get like black triangles not pixels sometimes with my epox 8kha+ setup

now that i have a th7-ii all my problems went away, most of it was warcraft 3 related

i dont have a single complaint now

The local place I bought it from just called and said that they can't get any new 64MB Version 8500's in. All they can get at this point is the 128MB version for $250... quite a price jump for a couple fps... especially since I don't have say a 21 inch monitor, so I don't play at 1600x1200.

He told me to bring it back in and he would refund my money. I just have to order one from Newegg I suppose. Hopefully it is a bad card and not something else or I will be out the shipping cost to mail it back.

On that board, do most of your voltages show up a little low? For example, my VCore is 1.45 and my 3.3V line is 3.28. I don't think this would have any affect, but I have thought of everything else.

voltages are a little low but i think that is a northwood thing rather than the motherboard

when i set mine to 1.65 volts i get 1.58 V

ok, thanks... just checking.

Right now, I am loading a fresh copy of XP with my Radeon in my old PC... to see if the problem carries over. Then I will know if it is something in my new machine that the card does not like, or if it is the card itself.

OK, the Video card is doing the same thing in my old P3 600 machine as well... I did notice it only does this at resolutions 1024x768 and above.

Sounds like your card. One of the memory chip is bad on the card that explain why you see it at higher resolution. Get another one.
