Radeon 8500 vs. Geforce3

I am thinking of getting one of these soon, so which is better in terms of:

1)Availability
2)Price
3)Performance (In current games)
4)Compatibility (i.e. Will it run games without crashing or weird video artifacts?)
5)Features
6)Am I set for the next year or two with it?

1. Geforce 3
2. Same or slightly lower Radeon 8500
3. About the same
4. Same or slightly leaning toward geforce 3
5. Radeon 8500
6. Both should be good for at least the next year

1) Radeon blows because it's not out yet 🙂
2) They should be close, maybe the Radeon being more expensive since it's newer
3) about the same, though it's hard to say until the radeon is actually released with its final drivers. For current games they'll both be great
4) Geforce is very compatible with most things, I see no difference with ATI's newest baby, plus they have some catch up so they'll be sure to take care of any problems if they arise
5) Raw features, this would probably go to ATI
6) Either will be fine for a while, though technically you could probalby be fine with a radeon or GF2 for the next year or two.

It's really difficult to buy a card that's not yet released, it's also difficult to gauge the performance and compatibility of a card that is unreleased and has only been previewed with unfinished silicon that's missing features and with beta drivers that are 'reportedly' significantly slower then the release drivers will be.

As always, if your buying now get the GF3... if your buying after the Radeon is released.... ask the question then, because right now it's little more then a guessing game.

Yea!!

will those cards be good for next year?..

i sure as hell hope so since i don't plan on upgrading mine until next year, and i'm still using my over 1yr old gf SDR...

(god my eyes hurt)

yah i wasnt sure about it being out yet.... i remember hearing somewhere it might be out... but i guess not.

any clues on when its due out?

I have a voodoo 5 and I had a geforce3 and finally sold it...mark the point then, geforce3's time isn't now - hopefully radeon can have superior image quality that ATI is known for...that I hope will be my next video card, nice to see others looking fwd to radeon 8500 as well.:disgust:
