hi all.. I was doing research for my V Card..

I am so close to get a GeForce 4 Ti series.. but then my friend told me to check into ATI Radeon 8500 .. he said it is about 80-90% of GeForce 4 Ti's performance but only factor of the price...

unforunately .. I coudln't find any web site with any direct comparison ... so .. I wonder if you Video Guru here has any idea ?

Thanks !!

Assuming gaming is your sole reason for buying a new card and you have the extra cash for a GF4 I'd definitely prefer the Ti4400/Ti4600 over the R8500.
If your interest is more mainstream then I'd probably lean towards the R8500 as it's a significantly more well rounded card.... better FSAA visual quality, better DVD playback, better 2D visual quality in most cases, slightly better TV-Out capabilities, DVI-Out, TV-Out, and HydraVision by default. etc.
And a comparable 3D feature set.
Performance is typically a bit below that of the GF4 Ti4200, but not by what I'd consider a large margin in most cases.

If your on a budget the R8500 is ideal, if you want a more well rounded card the R8500 is a better offering... if you want sheer gaming performance, and hence quite possibly better longevity then the GF4 would be the better buy.

I have a LEADTEK Geforce 4 Ti 4400. No problems, blazing fast, 2d is good, and I'm very happy with it.
