I've done a voltage modification to my retail Radeon 8500. This involved simple soldering with resistors/pots. I now have the core running at 1.77V and the memory at 3.9V. Verified with my multimeter. I used a 4.7K fixed resistor and 1K potentiometer in series for the memory (normally 4.3K Ohm for retail 8500). For the GPU I used a 1K resistor in series with a 1K potentiometer (normally 715 Ohm). This was after unsoldering the same resistors at the locations described in that article. For the 1.77V on the GPU, I have the pot set to 0 Ohm and it's just using the resistance from the fixed resistor. The pot is on there in case I ever want to adjust the voltage beyond 1.77V if I change the stock heatsink/fan. The memory chips have heatsinks placed on them to handle the increased heat dissipation.
Judging by the n00b nature of the Anandtech video forums I doubt many will understand my post anyways. Ahhh well, at least there's a few at Rage3D that understand what I did.
