I have TV out enabled, and it defaults to 60hz on my monitor, a Samsung 900NF. This is unacceptable. I run it @ 72hz all the time, using powerstrip, but when TV out is enabled, powerstrip doesn't work. What's the deal?
TV-out is always 60hz... the card can't output two different refresh rates at the same time. Some older cards can't even output to monitor and TV at same time.
It was the same way with my old Matrox card. When I Hooked up the TV it would change the size and refresh rate as well. If you are not watching both do what I did.................turn off the monitor and watch the TV.
Just my $.02
Well it's off to watch the State of the Union Address..................
You can only do 60Hz while both the TV and monitor are enabled. The reason being that NTSC is 60Hz (~240 fields interlaced at 29.97fps) and as was mentioned, the card cannot output at two different refreh rates. I only enable TV-out when I'm watching a DVD (I would if I were gaming too but I don't game on the TV).
OK, I have no idea what you guys are talking about. (I just tried this to verify) I enabled TV-out on my 8500 and the TV was of course at 60hz, but my monitor refresh didn't change at all. It is still sitting at 120hz. I can also output 2 different refresh rates to 2 different monitors with no problems at all. Am I missing something here?
AlastorX82, Let me guess, you are running windows 2000 right?
If I remember correctly
Windows 98/ME CAN output mutiple Refresh rates, BUT
Windows 2000 can't , this isn't an ATI thing,
If you go get a PCI card and use that for the second monitor both will STILL will default to 60Hz
I think a Hack exsists somewhere, I am trying to track it down now...
BTW, look on page three of that review
There is this picture fourth from the top
Here is the refresh rate fix, you can force any refresh rate at many different resolutions, it is meant mainly for games, because OpenGL in 2000/XP defaults to 60HZ no matter what, even in quake3 unless you know what your doing in the quake console
I just got the latest version (096b) and it works great for me
Also here is a web site that is trying to get people to complain to microsoft about this issue. http://www.xp-refresh.net/
And here is another way to fix just the desktop refresh rates...
