Are there any major issues left? I heard the new drivers give almost ti500 levels of performance in a lot of benchmarks.
How well does it perform in Counterstrike? Any smoke slowdowns like with the original Radeon?

Ironically, I'm considering trading because Nvidia's newest drivers above 12.4x make Civ3 crawl.

funny you say that: I have a gtsII 64 meg that hates any drivers over 1260's. I just finished installing Win XP and was having all sorts of software DVD problems, and the occasional lock- ups in some of the games I regularly play (Quake 3 Infiltration, Nox). XP loaded some drivers from the (?) 22 series. I kept going back, until I ended up with my trusty old 1260's again :)

I don't play CS too much, and don't monitor the fps, but smoke was fine. The card is really powerful, and that game doesn't take much to hit 99fps.

Radeon 8500 quality is superior to Ti500 ive had them both and I am sticking with the radeon

Drivers have problems.. BUT as new drivers come out, problems disappear

2D and 3D image quality is definately superior

PARTICULARLY 2D text quality from the radeon

ATI has always been known to be high quality in 2D and 3D modes...

Everone always wines about the Ati Radeon/CS smoke thing, but I have never had that big of problem with it, and I always buy/throw smoke grenades, hell sometimes i'll buy and throw three of them before I move in a map like Italy just to cut-off a possible CT attack. Granted i'm not running through it, but I have and fought in it as well with not much slow downs, even with my 750 T-bird@900MHz before I recently up-graded. Mabe running that 750 on a 6x150MHz ratio helped out? I use the 7075 drivers and am clocked at 187/187MHz.

Um... Radeon 8500 quality? I hear its a good thing.

Well I have an LCD with DVI so its never a problem for blurry text or such. And yes, there is a big problem with the original Radeon with smoke in CS. I play A LOT OF CS so I know this well.

On my ME system d3d would dissapear after I exit need for speed IV. Only way to get back the 3d mode was to restart. I also notice that when I put fsaa 4x the screen on the NFS IV and Offroad would stretch like crazy while is loading. Any way I went back to old driver and the disappearing 3d does not happen again. I hope the next driver is better!
