Even with a respect for price I'd still recommend a Ti500. The Radeon 8500 is a nice card but in most cases the Ti500 edges it in real world gaming benchmarks and IMO the image quality and drivers is better on the nVidia card.

I would take the Radeon 8500 over the Ti500. Nvidia's drivers are definately better though. Image quality is a different story. Usually it depends on everyone's opinion. I get weird flashy textures (even at non overclocked speeds) in Counter Strike on my GF3 Ti200 but it's not a big deal.

Welcome to the forums :)

IMO, wait a couple of weeks to see how the GF4s pan out, otherwise it's a question of priorities.

One thing to note is the Radeon 8500's perfomance on Anand's test with the Unreal II engine, that tips the scale in its favor if you ask me.

Personal choice though, they're both excellent GPUs.

Careful, easy way to start a flame war. ;) I agree though, it's too close to call. There's no clear-cut answer. I'm personally going to go with a Radeon 8500 because I want dual-monitor support in one card (despite nVidia's superior drivers) and the price sits very well with me. If you look at the benchmarks, the difference is negligible in most cases. Pick whichever has the nicer box!

up until about a week ago, i would have recommended the 8500 because its a lot cheaper and runs games nearly the same, but it just think it has way too many minor problems that really add up. i mean i couldn't even get my counterstrike to run at constant 99 fps...and this is a game that is several years old.

m1ke101 - i don't think any mainstream graphics card can run CS maxed out @ 99FPS constant.

But yet, if you don't care for the price a voodoo 6 is the way to go :). But seriously, ti500 is better when price doen't matter - but when on earth is it ever like that?

jeez, thanx guyz fer the replies
i think ill go in fer a radeon 8500 retail.....and as for the video capture, i could always buy an addon capture device for around $40.....total would come cheaper than the aiw8500, plus faster clock speed!

thanx again tho

Wow, a civilized thread about video cards. There's still hope for humanity after all. :D

I'm using my retail Radeon 8500 and have never regretted my purchase. (price was a deciding factor)

Both the Radeon 8500 and Ti500 are fine products. Without either, competition wouldn't be so fierce and we'd be paying up the wazoo for a video card and not have variety. So it's a good thing that we have companies duking it out! (I sure miss 3dfx though)

I had a GeForce 3 and it's nice and all but not enough options!
Radeon 8500 all the way! I had a OEM Version which is the same as the GeForce 3
But I'd get the All In Wonder version cause you can do anything with that thing!!!
I have one and I can use any piece of electronics I can think of!

Um, radeon 8500=BEST QUALITY
Nshidia has good drivers, Ati is getting better, so I would not worry about that.
8500 edges out ti500 also.

I have a radeon 8500. All I am going to say is like wow.

Plus, ATi has the best dvd playback out there.

I've already pointed out many times on a technical level why the Radeon's image quality is inferior to the GF3's. However rather than rehash the same arguments again I suggest you do a search.

However that's not to say that the Radeon looks ugly by any means because it doesn't and in most cases people probably wouldn't be able to tell the difference between the two cards. But one of them has better image quality and that card is not the Radeon.
