Radeon 8500... Oh no!

I got my radeon 8500 yesterday, but I am having the hardest time trying to install it. I'm having resource conflicts with PnP Bios and Motherboard Resources. I removed all my previous drivers and it didn't do anything. So I tried to modify the resources for the video card in safe mode, and I changed it so there were no conflicts, but when I tried to start windows, I would get a black screen. After a reboot, it would load windows but say that the settings don't work with the video adaptor. So after this started to piss me off, I deleted windows 98 and tried to install everything clean. No luck with that, still having resource conflicts. I downloaded the new drivers, but they won't install or even get past the InstallShield Wizard. I'm kindof out of ideas, anyone know what the heck to do?

Sorry to hear you are having these issues🙁

First off...reset your BIOS to its' default settings.

While you are in there, set the PnP OS...to NO!

Then re-install Windows. Windows will still try to allocate resources as it sees fit....the BIOS will simply let it do so! Hopefully😉

G/L!

When you re-installed, did you have all of your periherals connected/inserted?

I would try re-installing XP with only the necessary hardware (AGP card, HDD, RAM......)

After it installs (hopefully successfully too), one by one add the other cards (LAN card, modem, sound card.....). Reboot after each one is connected and let XP find each one, and it should be able to dole out resources efficiently.

Also keep in mind that most nics cannot share IRQs. Also be aware that your M/B is hardwired to share IRQs of certain PCI slots. For example, PCI slot 2 and 5 share the same, 1 and 3 share the same. It does differ from mobo maker to mobo maker, just be sure to put the nic on a PCI channel by itself, especially NOT with the sound card.

For all we know, this could be your whole problem right there!

Sorry you are getting pooched, but the best of luck fixing it, I know I have been there before:disgust:

Yeah, when I reinstalled the second time, I only had my video card, cd rom, fdd, and hdd plugged in. I thought that would fix it, but no luck. I don't have Windows XP, so I can't really install that. I have my TNT2 plugged in right now, and it is working fine after some rebooting and removing the new AGP driver. Radeon didn't work with this same setup. I tried to email ATI, but they sent me a remarkably unhelpful message back saying to read up on their FAQ's. I don't really want to call Canada either. Waranty is never helpful when you need it. I bought this for my school computer, but I'm trying to get it to work with this computer at home. I'm wondering whether or not I should return it, but I'm going to test it out on my cousin's computer this weekend, so we'll see how that goes. Thanks for the help Edblor.
