RADEON 8500 DV

is this like EXACTLY the same as 8500 but with the AIW stuff?

i must have missed something...

i wanted the AIW radeon 8500 for like cable tv n stuff and gaming... so it would use the same 8500 drivers right? and be just as good for games n all right?

Nope, slower Ram, lower clocked memory/core. 1 Monitor + 1 TV out support only. They "kind of" use the same drivers, but the new WHQL drivers break the Rage Theater drivers(on my VIVO as well). They still perform very well, despite being clocked 230/180 (190?) compared to 275/275 of the retail 8500.

ugh :disgust:

has anyone managed to safely overclock it to 8500 levels? i mean is it just an underclocked 8500?

because i NEED the 8500 performance and id also like tv tuner stuff...

if not what do i do? cuz they both agp... so does this mean i have to use the old pci AIW radeon? does it have less features, worse performance etc? thx

The core I've seem to get to R8500 levels and beyond (187). The memory speed... however is another story. 220 at best for that. The 8500DV uses SGRAM memory compared to SDRAM as found on the 8500. SG should help make up for it a little bit...

My card is stable at 250/210. Any higher than that, and I get artifacts on screen. The default is 230/190.

It does perform well though, and if you need all of the extras such as the TV tuner and break-out box etc in one card........the performance hit is not a bad compromise.

My 3DMark 2001 scores with my card over clocked to 250/210 are usually right at 6665. not bad really.

If you don't need the extras, but want great gaming performance....go with the regular 8500.
