Radeon 8500 Drivers won't install...

I bought an 8500 Retail today and I can't get the drivers to install under Windows Xp Pro.

I had a Leadtek GeForce2 GTS installed and I uninstalled the display drivers for the card...then took it out of the machine. I inserted the Radeon 8500 and upon bootup it found new hardware. I cancelled the Windows install and went to the CD-ROM that came with the card. After going for about 1 minute it said there was a problem with the installation and that I should set the video card to standard VGA before I install the ATI Drivers.

I can't find how to install a generic VGA driver because everytime it sees the Radeon 8500...

Help....

First of all, don't bother installing the drivers that come with the CD. They're not very good. Download new drivers at rage3d.com and then unzip them to a temporary directory. I'm assuming that the drivers won't come with an install executable.

So, when the new hardware wizard comes up, just point it to the directory with the drivers.

None of the above will work, I went through the same thing last weekend. Ended up having to reinstall to get it recognized🙁

nvidia drivers also don't uninstall properly, if you try to install your card now, the performance will most likely suck. I'd try and find a fix for it, or format and reinstall.

To install the generic VGA driver, click on "change adapter", "have disk", then select "show all hardware" and the Standard PCI VGA option should be listed
