Radeon 8500 driver released 11-15 support AIW Radeon?

I have a friend that has an AIW Radeon (the original, not the 8500) and he can't get games to run properly with DX8. Would the 8500 driver release on Nov. 15th work with this card?

apparently he's beta testing some new game that requires DX8.1 and when he runs it...it blows up under Win2k, but works fine in 98.
 
Not 100% certain, but I believe the 8500 drivers expect DirectX8.1 to be installed on the machine. I'd suggest installing 8.1 and see if that fixes things.
