Just wondering which operating system... XP or ME... the radeon 8500 runs better in. Thinking of dual booting xp with me but just want to make sure it's worth it to put me on.

Thanks!

Well IMO, WinME is a pile o' garbage.....Os wise, i can't say ya nor na about your question, but i can say that mine works without a hitch in XP. And even if it is "faster" in ME, the difference isn't gonna be that great...

I am running in XP fine. Using 3286 drivers from ATi website.
Obviously ME will be quicker for games, but you don't get the benefits of a cool operating system.

I am running XP with the Radeon 8500LE clocked at 264/264 and it is fine. Scored 8161 in 3DMark2001. (No bullshit)

Am running XP1800 which helps

No I'm going to dual boot them so I will usually use XP but I want something better for games. So is 98 better than ME for games then?

Millsy what did you use to overclock your radeon?

I used Powerstrip which you can get on net

Try warp2
or bestdownload and do search.

It is a shareware product and I beleive you can register it for additional access. I do not know a number though.

W98 and ME are the same engine just a few extra features in ME. If ME works okay with your PC I would use that. I used to use it on my Dad's PC and had no problems whatsoever.

Still, the radeon 8500 doesnt seem to have nearly as many problems as it does it windows XP.
Hydravision refuses to work without crashing while changing settings. And Im still having problems with counter-stirke not displaying on the full screen, but rather taking up about a quarter of the screen.

Its given me headaches ever since I bought it. I'm sure a lot of people have it working fine, but just check out rage3d's 8500 forum, and you will seee the many problems that you will likely face using the 8500 with windows XP. And ATi lied about delivering up to date drivers, the last release was more than a month ago. ATi better release some drivers before christmas.

If anyone wants to trade their radeon 7500 plus some money for me 8500 let me know,

-Steve

:disgust:
8500 was garbage to me in Win Xp
Games were slide shows.
Had to dual booot to win 98 for gaming.
Was a beautiful card, but had to exchange it for a G3 ti500 , cause I couldn't justify running to O/S just for gaming.

I have my 8500LE clocked at 275/275 now using Powerstrip and currently testing it out.
Seems okay and will probably go higher. (not bad considering it was a lot cheaper than retail)

I have noticed occasionally in Serious Sam it jitters now and then, but it still runs okay. Games would definitely run smoother in W98 or ME and I would dual boot if I was you.

This card loves 3DMark2001. Just scored 8406.

Well SpeedTester what did you do to make it run just fine? Which drivers? Which directX version? Which updates applied to XP?
