While the GF4 you're talking about does have better 3d processing power by a considerable margin, I personally wouldn't do it. Unless you're doing really, REALLY hi-res gaming, or AA, the difference isn't that great. Even then, the 8500 still packs enough processing power to give you frame rates that are quite acceptable (in my opinion).

This is just personal preference, but I'd keep the 8500 for now partially because of the good TV-out too.

Review of Radeon 8500LE (features benchmarks with GF4's listed)

Yea, I love my GeForce 4, but I don't think it is worth the money to upgrade. I mean, my GeForce 3 Ti 200 is still very fast, and the Radeon 8500 is even faster. I would have never thought about upgrading it, but I was building a new system so I figured I'd buy the best.

Probably not but getting a GF4 Ti4600 would be worth it. I'm upgrading my GF3 Ti500 to a GF4 Ti4600 if I don't like the RV250.

The only reason to upgrade at this point is if you have no other use at all
for CDN 600-700 tax-in.

My primary system with it's R8500 retail gives a 3Dmk2k1 se of 8700. A
GF4 4400 or 4600 would boost that over 10,000, but there would be little
(or no) noticeable difference in any of the applications I run.

I'm holding off for a year or so, but you go ahead and buy the bragging rights!

It's still a free country! :D

Let's not kid ourselves; the Ti4400 is faster than the Radeon 8500, there is no question about that. However, is it a big improvement? No, I would say definately not. Unless you can get a really sweet deal selling your old Radeon 8500 to some sucker I see no reason to upgrade until newer/faster cards come out.

The Ti 4400 is faster when running FSAA, but the Radeon is almost identical FPS if you are not running FSAA. I've had both cards in my machine. To be honest, I was expecting to have driver issues with the ATI and not the Ti 4400, but it has been exactly the opposite. Also, the Geforce 4 Ti 4400 and Ti 4600 take bigger performance hits when using anisotropic filtering. I must say for $150 the ATI Radeon 8500 (retail) is one hell of a good card.

the geforce4 is more than just a bit faster than the 8500 (or geforce3, for that matter) in FSAA. the geforce4 kicks the absolute snot out of the previous generation when it comes to anti-aliasing. if you want to use FSAA then definitely get the geforce4.

If you have an 8500 right now then you are in good shape and don't need to upgrade to a Gf4 unless you must have the best right then and there. It's alot of extra out of pocket expense right now and not advisable.

You should ask yourself do I need to upgrade & are my games now slow? I bet the answer is no,so you don`t need to and won`t get a very big perfomance upgrade.

I`m still using a GF2 Ti and doing quite well with all my current new and old games ,sure I can go & buy a GF4 Ti4400/4600 and will see faster FPS but I don`t need the extra speed right now,I don`t believe in buying a new card every 6 months or so just to get on the latest bandwagon,my upgrade rule is simple ,I only upgrade when I need to :).

Well said Mem. I am enjoying my current video card still. I figure when it gets too slow at some time in the future I can pick up a Geforce 4 real cheap, less than $150 in six months. I personally get a little more enjoyment out of a good deal. As good as it is the Geforce 4 Ti 4600 is, it isn't 4.3 times better than a Geforce 2 Ti. However, at $150 it just may be twice as good, I'll wait. In the meantime my games are still playing smoothly.:D

I agree with what everyone has said. I thought about making a move to the Ti4600 from my 8500... but my games are plenty fast, desktop looks good and I have not had any drivers problems since the second rev of the 8500 XP drivers.

I think we all understand the need to get the latest and greatest... but IMO, the GF4 is not worth the money (especially if you have a 8500). The next round of graphics cards will introduce new technologies that will probably have a significant impact on your gaming. Patience grasshopper.
