Radeon 7870, R9 270x, or a GTX 760?

I'm looking to upgrade from a Radeon 6870, I want something that's cheap yet powerful. Something to max out Witcher 2 without ubersampling at 1440 x 900. Which should I go with? I know little about video card properties.

I don't see anything wrong with this thread, so I'll reply with this helpful chart: http://www.techspot.com/review/405-the-witcher-2-performance/page4.html

Witcher 2 is an older game, so you won't see new cards benched with it. But the 7870 is between a GTX 570 and 580 in performance, so as you can see it will probably be just fine for you. It's discontinued, however, so finding one in stock may be a challenge. Newegg happens to have a Powercolor model on sale right now, but it's likely in limited quantities.

The GTX 760 would definitely be more powerful than necessary for that game, and frankly too large an investment for your resolution.

The R9 270X, at its inflated price, isn't a worthwhile purchase right now. At most I'd pay $200 for it, but a $150-160 HD7870 is a better choice if you catch one in stock.

The r9 270 non-x is a compromise between the 7870 and 270x price wise.

Yes, but it's actually slightly slower than an HD 7870, which is why it isn't a particularly good choice if the HD 7870 is still available.

Another option for the OP to consider is the GTX 660, which is always available for under $200 and would also be sufficient for this game/resolution. It is the slowest of all the choices, so a cheap HD 7870 is still superior.

I can deal with compromise, really. If it's better than a 6870 then I'll take it. The 7870 is being discontinued so I don't want to risk wasting my money on something I won't receive.

The GTX 760 is a tier above both the 270x and 7870. GTX 760 is on par with 7950/7970. Therefore, GTX 760 would be the best performing card out of the ones you mentioned. If you can get a 7870 for around $150, I'd go for it since it's only 10% slower than a 270x which starts at ~$220.
