I've been thinking of getting 4 low to middle end video cards to run a litecoin mining rig for fun, having never done it before. (and I always enjoy an excuse to putter around and build new hardware - litecoins going up over $9 each I guess is one) I don't play any video games that require the cards for gaming, so their performance as far as gaming is completely a non issue for me. Let me repeat again - I don't care which is better for gaming, which overclocks best, etc. All I care about is megahash per second at standard clock rate.
Newegg seems to have these cards for very similar prices, around $130-$140.
The 260x has twice the memory, and about a 30% faster core clock rate. (1180 Mhz) On the other hand, the 7850 has about 11% more shaders than the r7 260x, if what I'm reading is accurate.
I can't seem to find any info anywhere comparing the r7 260x to other amd gpu's, nor do I seem to find anything useful about which is more important to gpu mining - core speed or # of shaders.
Since I won't be doing any overclocking, I find myself leaning ever so slightly towards the r7 260x. Has anyone played around with an r7 260x for litecoin mining? If so, I am very curious to hear about what hashrate you may have gotten.
Thanks!
