Radeon 7099 Drivers and DirectX8

I'm mostly a gamer. I currently have the 7056 drivers installed for my 32DDR, and have had no problems. What possible advantage can i expect with the 7099 drivers and do I have to have DX8 installed to make them work? Or should I have DX8 for better performance? I installed DX8 a while back and ended up doing a clean windows 98SE install because my games seemed to slow a bit.

Would be really nice to hear from anyone who has some experience with upgrading these two drivers 8). Thanks in advance for any advice...

7056 or do you mean 3056? I'm running 7099 and DX8, and it works very well. No problems at all. The 7099 drivers work better with the newer games. If you are running 3056 and are happy with the setup, you know what they say...

Uninstall the old ones first with add/remove programs. Delete any ATI folders left in the programs directory, delete the ATI keys in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\ to be sure you get a clean install.

I'm surprised you haven't gotten directx8 for 3dmark2k1 yet. I do believe the 7099s need directx8, I remember some sort of warning when I tried to install the 7099s without directx8 in yet.

I installed the 7099 drivers by following the instructions at Rage3d with no problems. By the way, I'm still running DirectX 7.0a. 🙂
