For gaming... the MX400!

For home/office... toss up! The Radeon will have slightly better image quality.

If it was geforce 2 vs radeon, the gef would be a better choice. But against an mx400, the radeon wins easily. Mx cards suck period.

isn't the radeon 7000 the VE radeon rebadged? if so, then the mx400 will kill it. however, you'd be better off going to newegg.com and getting the gts-v or the radeon LE for about $65.

The Radeon 7000 IS a VE, which means it has no T&L engine.. which basically means it's a crippled radeon with an extra monitor port. Any MX card would easily beat it.

But I'd get a regular Radeon 32DDR/LE over an MX though.

even get a regular radeon sdr over the mx, its about the same price and you get the better 2d. Gaming performance is pretty much equal.

The Radeon is the better card. But the 7000 does not come standard with a fan, so unless you add one you will not be able to overclock to get more benefit from the card. Most MX400's come with a fan and that gives them more potential, so in the end, the MX400 might be the better choice.

Get the Radeon 7000 and add a small fan (won't take much) and overclock it to 183MHz+.

The Radeon 7000 uses the re-badged Radeon VE (now called the 'Radeon 7000') core, which means bad for gaming. The Radeon 7200 uses the normal Radeon (now re-badged as the 'Radeon 7200') core and 64mb of SDRAM. I think with this new naming scheme, ATi is causing quite a bit of confusion over which products do what. 7000=Radeon VE core; 7200=Radeon core; 7500=Radeon core on a .15 micron fabrication (aka RV200); 8500=R200 core (some people like to call it the 'Radeon 2')

Between the Radeon 7000 and the GeForce2MX, the MX is better for games while the 7000 is better for 2D applications.

The 7000 evidently lacks the "Charisma" engine, which is Ati's version of a T&L unit. (I checked the Ati website, and this was not listed in the features group for the 7000). If this is the case, then I would stay away from this, and buy the origional Radeon DDR which can still be found for under $100 bucks at Fry's.

Though, I would now definately go with an MX400 instead of the 7000 if in fact it does not have the T&L feature.

Don't even consider the 7000 (LE). Nor the MX. :) If you really need something cheap try a classic Radeon LE or a GTS-V and if you have more, then consider the GF2 Ti200 or Radeon 7200.

The above statement is confusing. Says, "don't even consider the 7000 (LE)", but latter says "try a classic Radeon LE..." Isn't there only one LE? Which is which?

And where does the Radeon LE DDR32 fit into the new naming scheme. It appears it doesn't because they say the 7000 is the VE (no T&L) and the 7200 is the Radeon 64DDR. No 32DDR listed which is the straight Radeon 32DDR - what is it then? Basically the Radeon 32DDR and the Radeon LE 32DDR are essentially the same card after you tweak the LE according the AT article.
